How to Add Plugins to a Free Paper Server

A Paper server runs plugins: server-side add-ons for things like teleport homes, chat tools or world management. Players join with the normal Minecraft client, no mods needed. On mgame.gg you pick plugins from our catalog of about 150 popular open-licensed Paper plugins.
Step by step
- Create your server as Paper, or open the dashboard of your existing Paper server on Free server hosting.
- Scroll to Plugins for your version and tick the plugins you want (up to 40). Use the filter to search.
- Press Save plugins.
- Restart the server. Plugins are installed during startup.
- Check the console: each plugin prints a line when it loads.
Using a plugin
Plugins are controlled with commands. To use them in game, you need to be an operator first. Run this once in the dashboard console:
op YourName
Then most plugins answer to /help <plugin> or their own command (for example /chunky for Chunky). The plugin's page on Modrinth, linked from the catalog, lists its commands.
Paper or Fabric?
Choose Paper if you want vanilla gameplay with admin tools, protection and quality-of-life features that work for every player without installing anything. Choose Fabric if you want mods that change the game itself. More in Vanilla vs Paper vs Fabric.
Things to know
- Plugins can't be uploaded; only catalog plugins can be installed.
- To remove a plugin, untick it, save and restart, then check the console to confirm it no longer loads.
- Plugin config files can't be edited directly yet. Most popular plugins can be configured with their own in-game commands.
