Minecraft Stack Calculator

Minecraft stack calculator: convert items to stacks, shulker boxes and double chests for 64, 16 and 1 stack sizes, or turn stacks back into items.

Type a number of items and the calculator splits it into stacks, shulker boxes, double chests and player inventories, for items that stack to 64, 16 or 1. It also works the other way: enter double chests, boxes and stacks to get the total item count. A third panel shows how long a farm takes to fill each container.

How to use the stack calculator

  1. Type the number of items. Sums work too, for example 27*64 + 10.
  2. Choose the stack size: 64, 16 or 1. If you're not sure, type the item's name in the lookup box and the calculator sets the stack size for you.
  3. Read the results. Each row shows the full containers, the stacks and items left over, and how many containers you need in total. The grid shows the last double chest slot by slot.
  4. To go the other way, fill in Stacks and boxes to items. The button sends the total to the top calculator so you can split it again.
  5. For farms, enter the items per hour to see how long a stack, a shulker box and a double chest take to fill.

How many items fit in each container

Container Slots Stack of 64 Stack of 16 Stack of 1
One stack 1 64 16 1
Shulker box, chest, barrel or ender chest 27 1,728 432 27
Double chest 54 3,456 864 54
Player inventory (main slots and hotbar) 36 2,304 576 36
Double chest full of shulker boxes 1,458 93,312 23,328 1,458

How the numbers are calculated

  • Stacks: the number of items divided by the stack size, rounded down. The remainder is one partial stack.
  • Full containers: a container holds its slot count times the stack size. The calculator divides your items by that and shows what is left as stacks and single items.
  • Containers needed: a partial stack still takes a whole slot. The calculator counts the slots you need, divides by the container's slots and rounds up.

For example, 1,000 ender pearls stack to 16. That is 62 stacks and 8 pearls, so they take 63 slots. They fill 2 shulker boxes with 8 stacks and 8 pearls left over, so you need 3 boxes.

The fill time is the container's capacity divided by your farm's rate. A farm making 1,800 items an hour fills a double chest of 64-stack items in about 1 hour 55 minutes.

Which items stack to 16 or 1

These stack sizes come from the Java Edition 26.3 game data, which is also what the lookup box uses.

  • 16: ender pearls, snowballs, eggs (including blue and brown eggs), signs and hanging signs, banners, empty buckets, armor stands, honey bottles and written books.
  • 1: tools, weapons and armor, potions of all kinds, stews and soups, filled buckets, beds, boats, minecarts, shulker boxes, bundles, enchanted books, totems of undying, saddles, cakes, music discs, banner patterns, spyglasses, goat horns, shields and elytra.
  • 64: almost everything else, including blocks, ores, food such as bread and steak, arrows, name tags, firework rockets and bottles o' enchanting.

Tips for storage and farms

  • Shulker boxes are the densest storage you can carry. A double chest of full boxes holds 93,312 items that stack to 64.
  • Unstackable items take one slot each, so a shulker box holds 27 swords or potions.
  • One hopper moves 2.5 items per second, which is 9,000 items an hour. A farm that makes more than that needs several hopper lines.

Frequently asked questions

How many items are in a stack in Minecraft?

Most items stack to 64. Ender pearls, snowballs, eggs, signs, banners, empty buckets and a few others stack to 16. Tools, armor, potions, beds, boats and shulker boxes don't stack at all.

How many items fit in a shulker box?

A shulker box has 27 slots, the same as a chest. That is 1,728 items that stack to 64, 432 items that stack to 16, or 27 items that don't stack.

How many items fit in a double chest?

A double chest has 54 slots. It holds 3,456 items that stack to 64, 864 that stack to 16, or 54 unstackable items.

How many items is a double chest full of shulker boxes?

It holds 54 shulker boxes with 27 slots each, which is 1,458 stacks. For items that stack to 64, that is 93,312 items.

How many stacks is 1,000 items?

For items that stack to 64, 1,000 items are 15 stacks and 40 items, which take 16 slots. For items that stack to 16, it is 62 stacks and 8 items.

Does the stack calculator work for Bedrock Edition?

The slot math is the same, because chests and shulker boxes have 27 slots in both editions. The item lookup uses Java Edition data, so if an item stacks differently in your game, pick the stack size by hand.
